After an incredibly late night last night, I am up early to get things together for a family reunion. I realized that I forgot, completely, about the raffle at said reunion. I believe I have one more candle pack that I may rip apart to put together some sort of raffle item.
Neither of us slept well. We both are kind of in a daze and would be very un-entertaining if someone was here with us. Superhero is playing his Conan game and I am sitting here enjoying a morning cup of cocoa and soy milk and oatmeal with brown sugar. I should probably say brown sugar with oatmeal in it. I do not know what I would do if and or when I am ever diagnosed with diabetes – sugar is a staple in this house.
I came up with an idea while lying in bed this morning trying to convince myself that I needed to get some more sleep. I have a rocking horse my father bought for me when I was born. I am going to put it in the baby’s room. Well, it is kind of old and will not really be of much use for the baby once they get a little bigger. It will probably provide some very cute photo opportunities prior to it’s retirement. However, I would still like to have it in there. So it will probably become a teddy bear or doll’s trusty steed. But I would like it to serve a bigger purpose – so I decided this morning to make a saddle bag for it. It won’t be a very big saddle bag, but I think it’s a cute idea and it will help pull the horse into the room decor. So add one more thing to the list. Fortunately, that’s not really a must and can be put off until after the baby is born.
On my little Baby J; our little arrival holds a little secret – Mama doesn’t know if he is a boy or a girl. People are always amazed when I tell them that Daddy knows but Mama doesn’t. Daddy had well-planned rules to follow prior to finding out. We had to have our names picked out before them, because I didn’t want him pushing me for a girl’s name knowing it was a girl or giving me that look when I mentioned we needed to figure out a girl’s name (that was the one that stumped us, can you tell?). You know, that look that says, “It’s a boy, we don’t have to figure out a girl’s name.” He is not allowed to tell anyone or buy anything gender related. He is not allowed to point out patterns; he can only pick from patterns that I suggest. He is to refer to the baby as “he” – this is our generic referral. Sorry ladies, I’m all about woman’s rights, equality, and bra-burning (I have one particular one I would LOVE to set on fire), but he has one less letter to type out. So those were his guidelines and Superhero has followed them magnificently! He has known since 20 weeks and we’re almost to 32 weeks. He likes being unique and watching everyone gasp when we say he knows but I don’t.
I have made a few things for the baby so far. I did finish up one last night that I am particularly proud of. This receiving blanket will be packed in Baby J’s bag for the hospital – I am that proud of it. I really enjoy the machine applique. It is a really fast and easy way to add an incredible personalization or adornment to any item. Again with the suspense – I hope when I build up these items the pictures are worth it in the end. Here is Baby J’s receiving blanket.

Baby J also has another completed receiving blanket, two pairs of booties, and a mobile. I am also about halfway through a full skull set for the baby in honor of my husband. Every man needs some baby accessories of his own. I am thinking about getting him a t-shirt and embellishing it similarly so that he can match the baby when they go out together – if they go out together. Superhero is very much a homebody. He does have a bunch of t-shirts already that he could wear to match, so that’s not a high priority. Anyways, here are the other items I have completed and have pictures of. I am waiting to finish the whole skull set prior to taking pictures so that I can get it all in one picture.

Baby J's Booties and Receiving Blanket

Baby J's Mobile
I have to say, I LOVE the bootie pattern I found and I feel that it needs to be shared. This is an incredibly easy bootie pattern and takes very little fabric. I find it easiest to make with fleece, but that is because I added in a layer of batting to the flannel booties I made since Baby J will be little enough to wear them in the winter and will need warmth on the little tootsies.
Your mobile looks great!!! I love it!
The booties are cute too! But that mobile…love it!

Thanks Maggie!
