I am back. Did you miss me?
After an incredible windstorm on Sunday, we spent the last four days living in the dark ages (although, we did have running water). It was amazing to watch the trees bend and twist in the wind. The hardest part of it all – we had no warning; no “Hey, Hurricane Ike is coming your way.” I envy the people in Texas for that; would I want to be in their shoes now? Heck no. But that’s why I don’t live in an area that can be hit with hurricanes. Well, at least I thought I didn’t. At least we are safe and didn’t suffer any major property damage.
There has been so much going on in the last two weeks. No Baby J yet…but I have a feeling the little one will be here soon. My mother came down the weekend of the sixth and we ran all kinds of errands getting ready for Baby J. First, it was off to my neighbor’s mother’s house to work out the details of my diaper bag that she is making. She makes beautiful bags and I couldn’t think of anyone better to ask. I will, of course, be paying for my custom diaper bag, but it all worked out to be about the same amount as the one I had registered for. If you are ever looking for a great purse/bag/whatever, look into Maggie’s Mom!
Anyways, we tootled around town for a bit after that, hitting places like Target, Kohl’s, etc. but then decided we were going to head down to the Hartville Marketplace. I had never been there and everyone at work keeps talking about it. I am definitely going back if for nothing else but a candle called “Monkey Farts” which happened to smell like bananas! I loved it! Deciding we were hungry, we thought we would eat at the Hartville Kitchen, which looked to be pretty popular; so popular that the wait to sit and eat was over two hours. Pregnant woman and a diabetic waiting two hours for dinner…I don’t think so. So we ordered carry out and headed to a nearby park. This was one of those moments that I desperately wish I had had a camera on me. The park was on the backside of a school and there was a football game going. The trees provided the perfect shade and while it was a little cool, it was the perfect kind of cool. The food was amazing (we split a three piece chicken dinner) and we had the perfect amount. It couldn’t have been a more perfect evening or way to spend our last few moments as just mother and daughter pre-grandchild.
Once the moment was over, we headed to Joann’s to pick up the fabric for my diaper bag and then to Babies R Us to get breast pump pieces to replace some pieces on my sister’s pump so I can use it. Medela says in the pamphlet not to share that particular style breast pump, but then sells a whole accessory kit for that purpose. Okay….
The next day we spent getting everything organized in the nursery. I had a few things left to do after Mama left, but for the most part, everything was ready. She left Monday morning when I left for work.
I made the curtains last weekend out of nice thick canvas. I was going to paint stars on the curtains to match the room, but decided not to. I figured Baby J could paint the curtains next time we redo the room and then, after that, I can make them into a memory blanket. I also had to revamp the mobile as it hung down too low in the crib. So I shortened the ribbons for that and installed it last weekend as well. Then the power went out…no Steeler’s v. Browns game and no work on the quilt.
Superhero has been juggling around jobs the last two weeks. He received a very unexpected cessation of assignment at the company he had been with for over six months and the temp company, knowing the baby was coming, has been placing him in assignment after assignment to keep him working. I appreciate it, but I hope he will find something more consistent or more permanent soon.
My baby (a.k.a my Jeep) is sick! I got in it last Sunday to go to a Breastfeeding Class and it wouldn’t turn over. After conferencing with a few people who slightly know something about cars, we have decided it’s something to do with the fuel injection system. I will be getting it towed down the hill to get fixed soon (hopefully tonight). I hope it will not cost us too much – of course the diagnostic alone where we’re taking it is $89.95! Ouch. Oh well…we need the two cars. I have been arriving at work at 6:30 the last three days so that Superhero can get to work on time. That’s all well and good if I started at 7 or even 7:30, but I don’t start until 8. I get home and just want to die.
Well, I should be off. I will be back on with more news and some pictures later this afternoon or tomorrow.
I am glad to hear that you did get much damage from the Ike fallout. We didnt even lose power, but campus (where the Red Cedar River is) is still very flooded. My Neon died some time last week… we think it is a battery issue (I hope) but we have yet to have time to work on it. If I get to go to Seattle for a job interview, I will make sure to send you a postcard!
